September, 1933.
In reply to your letter of 27th July last (No. 13717/8/33), regarding Hong Kong Ordinance No.10 of 1933, relating to the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, I am commanded by the Army Council to state, for the information of Secretary Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister that they have the following observations to offer on the text of the
Ordinance :-
L
Section 3(1), last line. The words "member thereof"
would appear to include an officer (Section 2(f)).
As the special provisions of Section 4 apply in the
case of officers, the word "volunteer" should be substituted for the words in question.
Section 11(5), line 1. The words "of the corps" should be inserted after the word "officer".
Section 15(1)(iv)(c), line 17. The words "the corps" should be substituted for the words "his corps".
Section 16(5). Paragraph (1) of Section 15(1) relates only to volunteers and presumably Section 16(5) does not therefore apply to officers. If this is so, the
word "volunteer" should be substituted for "member" in lines 1 and 4...
Section 16(5), line 5. The word "volunteer" should be deleted.
Section 29. The Volunteer Amendment Ordinance (No.2 of 1921) has been omitted.
I am to add that the Council suggest that these amendments should be effected when the necessity for amending the Ordinance first arises.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.1.
I am,
sir,
Your obedient Servant,
